Nine Olives Hvar is my purpose-designed holiday house on the edge of the beautiful, historic town of Stari Grad on Hvar Island in Croatia. It was completed in June 2024.  Many parties have now stayed at Nine Olives and have, without exception, praised both the house and its location.

Nine Olives is on a magnificent site, with glorious views. The house has been designed to make the most of the views. Modern and traditional design elements create a holiday house that is truly unlike any other. It was designed by excellent local architects and built by a skilled contractor, with great attention to detail.

Amazing Vistas

The design of the house is about making the most of the views, from both inside and outside.  A memorable feature is watching the constant stream of boats of all shapes and sizes going in and out of Stari Grad harbour, and the ferries which head straight toward the house before diverting into the nearby ferry port.

Beautiful Heated Pool

The pool is treated by hydrolysis, with no chemicals. It is heated in cooler months. It has a shelf for sitting and chatting (preferably with a cocktail in hand). There are recliners and umbrellas. There is a pool cover if you have young children.

Sensational Sunsets 

Nine Olives Hvar looks directly west. Sunsets are fantastic at all times of the year. They are particularly magical from late May to late July when the sun goes down straight ahead over the sea.

Spacious, Elegant Interiors

All rooms in the house have lots of space. They are furnished with fitted furniture of high quality that has been designed especially for the house. The floors (and kitchen table and bathroom sinks) have been made using a special technique called microtopping, installed by specialists from Germany. 

Inside Dining With a View

The dining room, with a round table that is ideal for conversation, looks out over the sea. The colours at breakfast time, with the sun rising from the opposite side of the house, are stunning.

Outside Dining with a View

The large terrace has two dining tables that can either seat 6 or 10, under the shade of a gazebo. It has a gas barbecue and is close to the kitchen, making it excellent for all meals. There is also a table on the smaller terrace. It is often in the shade an is a nice place to check emails etc.

Large, Comfortable En-Suite Bedrooms

All five bedrooms all have large purpose-built wardrobes and headboards with power sockets and lighting controls. There is a handy shelf along one wall for putting things on and hooks for hanging beach towels. Each has thermostat controlled air conditioning and a ceiling fan. The four main rooms open to cool breezes from the sea, with retractable nets that prevent insects getting in. Each of the four main bedrooms can be set up either with a large double bed or two large single beds.

Bedrooms with a View

All four of the main bedrooms are of the same size and have views of the sea and the garden.  The fifth bedroom can either be part of a family suite or be used independently.

Large, Beautiful Bathrooms

All rooms have large ensuite shower rooms with double basins, walk in shower and toilet. There is also a shared bathroom with bathtub and an outdoor shower with hot and cold water in a secluded part of the garden.

Beautiful Mediterranean Garden  

The garden has plants typical of Hvar, including a herb garden with 13 varieties and 14 olive trees.

Stroll to the Beach

Lanterna Beach is directly in front of the house, 300 m away along a paved path. It is a beautiful cove with pebble beach, sun bathing platform area, showers, toilets and lovely beach bar (seasonal opening) under pine trees. Swimming there is delightful. A walk or cycle of 2km along the sea shore takes you to a beautiful sand beach. Many other beautiful beaches are easy to get to. 

Holiday in one of Europe's Oldest Towns, a World Heritage Site

Nine Olives Hvar holiday villa offers the best of town and country. It is on the edge of lovely Stari Grad, which was founded in 384 BC. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is strung out along the side of its harbour, with traffic free quays on both sides. It is only 600m from the house to the heart of the town, along a beautiful car-free harbourside promenade. It is a delight to stroll through the lanes of the old town and along the quayside. There are many interesting heritage attractions to visit.

Fantastic for Groups of Friends

Nine Olives is designed to be perfect for groups of friends. It provides a range of spaces where everyone can socialise together - around the dining room table, on the terraces, in the garden - but equally allows everyone to do their own thing. There is no need to haggle about who gets the best room, because they are all the same (apart from room 5).  

An Excellent Selection of Bars and Restaurants within Walking Distance

There are many restaurants, bars, coffee shops and ice cream shops to choose from, either overlooking the water or in the atmospheric streets of the old town. All offer a choice of inside or outside seating.

Exceptional for Families

The house and location are great fun for kids of all ages. Apart from the pool and garden and all the interesting spaces around the house, they can safely walk or cycle to the beach or the town without encountering a car (other than crossing the road in front of the house which is quiet). There are many things to do, including water parks, a square with "pavement mist", and a choice of several ice cream shops. Our two-room suite has been designed especially with families with young kids in mind.

Especially nice in the spring and autumn

You can expect delightful weather in Stari Grad from March to November. Ferries run all year and there are always at least some restaurants and bars open.  Our pool is heated and the sea is warm from mid-May to late October.
